Annie:
We have reserved a small block of rooms at the nearby Carleton Hotel in Oak Park, Illinois. The group number is 1894, and the last date to book your room is April 26th. If you are more interested in the hustle and bustle of the big, bad city, we would be happy to recommend a few good places to stay in downtown Chicago. If the bucolic suburbs are more your speed, we can also help out with your selection. Please let us know!
If you plan to fly in for the wedding, your arms will be tired, but either airport will be okay.
If you plan to drive, parking is available in the parking garage right next to the 19th Century Club. This parking is magically, luxuriously, free on Sunday, the day of the wedding! Hurray!
If you plan to take public transportation, that’s really more Jason’s department. Take it away, Jason!
Jason:
If you plan to take public transportation, both the CTA Green Line and the Metra Union Pacific West Line will deposit you just a couple blocks south of the Nineteenth Century Club. For the Green Line, get off at Harlem Avenue (the end of the line) and exit on the east side of the platform, which will take you down into the station shared with Metra. For Metra UP-W riders, the station is just called Oak Park, and you should exit on the west side of the platform. Exiting the station, turn right on North Boulevard and walk half a block to Marion Street. Turn left on Marion and walk to Lake. Turn right on Lake and walk to Forest Avenue. Turn left on Forest Avenue and walk to the Nineteenth Century Club at 178 Forest Avenue.
Still unsure? Never fear. Google Maps integrates both CTA and Metra in its directions.
To be fair, the Green Line passes through some rougher patches of the west side before arriving in Oak Park. The train is quite safe, but those unfamiliar with the ways of the city might be more comfortable on Metra (which also runs through those neighborhoods, but more quickly and with fewer stops), or in a cab.
